Nick Cherney, CFA

Nick Cherney is Senior Vice President, Head of Exchange Traded Products at Janus Henderson Investors. Mr. Cherney was the chief investment officer and co-founder at VelocityShares from 2009 until Janus’ acquisition of the company in 2014. Prior to VelocityShares, he worked at Barclays Capital in New York and had product development and management responsibilities for iPath ETNs. Previous to this role, Mr. Cherney was a portfolio manager for iShares at Barclays Global Investors in San Francisco, where he managed more than $25 billion of ETF assets across asset classes. Earlier, he was an index research analyst at Barclays Global Investors. Mr. Cherney has appeared on CNBC and Bloomberg TV and is frequently sought out by the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Barron’s and other leading financial publications and news agencies.
Mr. Cherney received a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated with highest honors. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 12 years of financial industry experience.
Scott M. Weiner, DPhil
Head of ETP Quantitative Strategy
Scott Weiner is Head of ETP Quantitative Strategy at Janus Henderson Investors. Prior to joining VelocityShares, which Janus acquired in 2014, Dr. Weiner was Managing Director and U.S. Head of Equity Derivatives and Quantitative Strategy at Deutsche Bank, where he was twice voted to the All-America Research Team in Equity Derivatives Research by Institutional Investor. Institutional Investor also ranked Dr. Weiner as one of the top ten equity research analysts on Wall Street for client responsiveness and investment ideas. His research has been published in Mathematical Finance as well as the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics.
Dr. Weiner holds a finance degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of Oxford. Dr. Weiner has 20 years of financial industry experience.
John McDermott, Ph.D.

Dr. John McDermott is an Associate Professor of Finance in the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University. John earned his BS in Engineering from the US Coast Guard Academy, MBA from Columbia University, and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. His research on hedging, market liquidity, and index reconstitution has been published in notable finance journals including the Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Markets, and the Journal of Futures Markets. John is the Chief Investment Strategist of Symmetry Partners in Glastonbury, CT and is responsible for the management of over $8 billion in client assets.
