The Index Committee is responsible for reviewing the design, composition, and calculation of the Indices, the development of new indices, and to determine changes, if any, to the Index methodology (including rules for selecting companies, share count or other matters), and the treatment of corporate actions.

Decisions made by the Index Committee include all matters related to Index Policy and Maintenance. The Index Committee meets periodically to review market conditions and Index performance, or on an as-needed basis to address major market developments.

The Index Committee reserves the right to exercise its discretion in making decisions with respect to any Index Policy or action. Index Committee internal procedures and discussions are confidential.

Nick Cherney, CFA

Senior Vice President, Head of Exchange Traded Products

Nick Cherney is Senior Vice President, Head of Exchange Traded Products at Janus Henderson Investors. Mr. Cherney was the chief investment officer and co-founder at VelocityShares from 2009 until Janus’ acquisition of the company in 2014. Prior to VelocityShares, he worked at Barclays Capital in New York and had product development and management responsibilities for iPath ETNs. Previous to this role, Mr. Cherney was a portfolio manager for iShares at Barclays Global Investors in San Francisco, where he managed more than $25 billion of ETF assets across asset classes. Earlier, he was an index research analyst at Barclays Global Investors. Mr. Cherney is frequently sought out by leading financial publications and news agencies including CNBC, Bloomberg TV, the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters and Barron’s, among others.

Mr. Cherney received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of California – Berkeley, where he graduated with highest honors. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 13 years of financial industry experience.

Scott M. Weiner, DPhil

Head of ETP Quantitative Strategy

Scott M. Weiner is Head of ETP Quantitative Strategy at Janus Henderson Investors. Prior to joining VelocityShares, which Janus acquired in 2014, Dr. Weiner was managing director and U.S. head of equity derivatives and quantitative strategy at Deutsche Bank, where he was twice voted to the All-America Research Team in Equity Derivatives Research by Institutional Investor. Institutional Investor also ranked Dr. Weiner as one of the top 10 equity research analysts on Wall Street for client responsiveness and investment ideas. His research has been published in Mathematical Finance as well as the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics.

Dr. Weiner received his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business and master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of Oxford, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. Dr. Weiner has 21 years of financial industry experience.

McDermott_John

John McDermott, Ph.D.

Independent Index Committee Member

John McDermott is an Associate Professor of Finance at Fairfield University, Dolan School of Business. Dr. McDermott’s research on hedging, market liquidity and index reconstitution has been published in notable finance journals, including the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Financial Markets and the Journal of Futures Markets. Additionally, he is Chief Investment Strategist of Symmetry Partners in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and is responsible for the management of over $8 billion in client assets.

Dr. McDermott received his bachelor of science degree in engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He also holds an MBA from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.
