Decisions made by the Janus Henderson Index Committee include all matters related to index policy and maintenance. The Index Committee is responsible for reviewing the design, composition and calculation of all Janus Henderson Indices as well as the development of new indices. The committee meets to review market conditions and index performance and to address major market developments. The Index Committee also determines whether any changes should be made to existing index methodologies and makes determinations on how various corporate actions should be treated.

Chair of the Index Committee | Portfolio Manager | Quantitative Solutions

Benjamin Wang is a Portfolio Manager on the Quantitative Solutions Team at Janus Henderson Investors. He also serves as chair on the firm’s Index Committee. Prior to joining VelocityShares, which Janus acquired in 2014, he spent five years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management as an execution trader in quantitative investment strategies. He began his career at Susquehanna International Group as an assistant trader.

Benjamin received a bachelor of science degree and master of engineering degree in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as a master of science in financial engineering from Columbia University. Benjamin holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 19 years of financial industry experience.

Farzad Ali

Senior Risk Manager

Farzad Ali is a Senior Risk Manager at Janus Henderson Investors, a position he has held since 2006. In this role, he is responsible for the production of risk and performance analysis and collaborates with portfolio managers to help keep portfolios within their risk guidelines. Mr. Ali joined Janus in 2000 as a web specialist. In 2001, he became a portfolio information analyst in charge of calculating and analyzing performance and characteristics for separate and sub-advised accounts.

Mr. Ali received his bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Texas – Austin. He has 21 years of financial industry experience.

John McDermott, Ph.D.

Independent Index Committee Member

John McDermott is an Associate Professor of Finance at Fairfield University, Dolan School of Business. Dr. McDermott’s research on hedging, market liquidity and index reconstitution has been published in notable finance journals, including the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Financial Markets and the Journal of Futures Markets. Additionally, he is Chief Investment Strategist of Symmetry Partners in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and is responsible for the management of over $8 billion in client assets.

Dr. McDermott received his bachelor of science degree in engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He also holds an MBA from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.

Caroline Barotti

Global Head Guideline Implementation & Oversight

Caroline Barotti is Global Head Guideline Implementation and Oversight at Janus Henderson Investors, a position she has held since 2023. She is responsible for the investment management compliance (IMC), including implementation, testing, and oversight of regulatory compliance, investment restrictions, and company investment management policies. Caroline and her team manage the various compliance functions associated with the oversight and support of the Investment and Trading departments through the implementation of investment restrictions within Janus Henderson’s order management system and oversight of pre and post trade compliance exceptions. She reports to the Head of North America Compliance and Chief Compliance Officer. Caroline joined the firm in 2021 as the head of investment compliance North America. Prior to joining Janus Henderson, Caroline worked at Abrdn for seven years, most recently as head of investment control Americas from 2015. Earlier in her career, she held various investment compliance roles at T. Rowe Price over five years and operational roles at State Street and Vanguard.

Caroline received her Bachelor of Science degree in finance with honours from the University of Maryland. She has over 16 years of investment compliance experience and 20 years of financial industry experience.

Zoey Zhu, CFA

Zoey Zhu, CFA

Portfolio Manager | Quantitative Solutions

Zoey Zhu is a Portfolio Manager on the Quantitative Solutions Team at Janus Henderson Investors. Prior to joining the firm in 2018, she was with Credit Suisse as a business analyst in the fixed income derivatives group from 2013 and started her career there as a technology analyst in 2012.

Zoey earned a bachelor of computing degree with honours in information systems from National University of Singapore and a master of science degree in computational finance from Carnegie Mellon University. She is fluent in Mandarin. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 11 years of financial industry experience.
